Summer Programs Interns team with experienced field instructors to create, plan and provide a variety of educational programs for youth. The Staff Instructor is a seasonal, full-time member of the education team for IslandWood. During the 10-months of the school year, the Staff Instructor will teach each week of the SOP in alignment with established curriculum while ensuring culturally responsive instruction to engage all learners. The Staff Instructor supports School Partnerships Program as liaison with schools and providing in-classroom lessons. Responsibilities will include regular evening and occasional weekend teaching.
IslandWood has been delivering school programs (designed for 3rd-8th grade), community events, and teacher professional development workshops in partnership with King County Wastewater Treatment Division at the Brightwater Education Center in Woodinville since 2012.
The Brightwater Center includes a wastewater treatment plant, 70 acres of natural area, and a state-of- the-art learning center, laboratory and exhibit hall.
The Staff Instructor is a full-time, seasonal member of the IslandWood Education team. Our integrated curriculum uses the environment as the context for fostering community and environmental stewardship for over 4,000 elementary students and 300 teachers, each year, most from the greater Puget Sound area. We intentionally work with and support schools across the socio-economic spectrum. IslandWood is located on Bainbridge Island, a short, 35-minute ferry ride from Seattle.

The School Overnight Program (SOP) Coordinator is a member of the full time professional education staff for IslandWood. SOP’s integrated curriculum uses the environment as the context for fostering community and environmental stewardship for over 4,000 elementary students and 300 teachers, each year, most from the greater Puget Sound area.
IslandWood invites children and adults alike to discover a new way of seeing nature, themselves, and one another. In doing so, each person comes to understand their ability to change the world for the better. IslandWood operates traditional day camp programs for campers 4 years-olds through those entering 9th grade. Running from late June through mid-August, these experiences directly address IslandWood’s mission of inspiring lifelong learning and environmental and community stewardship.
