Summer Programs Interns team with experienced field instructors to create, plan and provide a variety of educational programs within day camps for youth. All programs are united by a core framework that includes: embracing adventure, exploring concepts of stewardship, living and learning in community, and engaging with place.

IslandWood’s Urban School Programs include programs at Seattle parks and schoolyards and at the Brightwater Center in Woodinville. Educators engage students in their home environments and dig deep into how built and natural systems work in tandem. We are seeking equity-oriented educators to deliver programs to 3rd -8th grade students in classrooms and in the field about stormwater, wastewater, engineering, and how humans interact with the ecosystems they are a part of.

Summer Programs Interns team with experienced field instructors to create, plan and provide a variety of educational programs for youth. Our programs are primarily day camps, with a couple specialty programs more focused on academics throughout the summer. All programs are united by a core framework that includes: embracing adventure, exploring concepts of stewardship, living and learning in community, and engaging with place.

The Lead Educator is responsible for the delivery and on-site coordination of IslandWood’s Seattle school day program. The program is taught by hourly educators at parks and outdoor locations around the city and augments science curriculum for 4th grade students in Seattle Public Schools. This position is also responsible for registering teachers for all Urban School Programs using Salesforce; the registration work is heaviest in April and May.

IslandWood’s Urban School Program Educators teach set curricula to 3rd-8th grade students both in a classroom setting and in the field regarding stormwater, wastewater, engineering, and how humans interact with the ecosystems they are a part of. Urban School Programs include programs at urban parks and schoolyards in Seattle, various schools within King and Snohomish counties, and at the Brightwater Center in Woodinville.

IslandWood invites children and adults alike to discover a new way of seeing nature, themselves, and one another. In doing so, each person comes to understand their ability to change the world for the better. IslandWood operates traditional day camp programs for campers 4 years-olds through those entering 9th grade. Running from late June through mid-August, these experiences directly address IslandWood’s mission of inspiring lifelong learning and environmental and community stewardship.

IslandWood’s mission is to provide exceptional learning experiences and inspire lifelong environmental and community stewardship. Our School Overnight Program (SOP) is designed for elementary-aged students in a multi-day residential school program on our 255- acre Bainbridge Campus. The SOP Coordinator manages all logistics, materials, and curriculum for SOP, acting as a resource for school groups and teachers and resource/advisor for graduate student instructors during their practicum.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Education, IslandWood’s next Director of Education for Environment and Community will be a leader who will strengthen and grow its innovative and inclusive environmental education graduate program. The EEC Director is responsible for ensuring a robust academic relationship with the University of Washington. The EEC Director provides the academic leadership for IslandWood’s graduate faculty and mentors who support a 10-month cohort learning community.
