Overview:

Dates: June 19-August 3, 2018 (optional extension through August 10)

Designed to mirror the experience of a camper, but over a longer period of time, this program provides valuable skills in teaching, behavior management, reflection, and community building. Begin the summer by getting to know our forest on Bainbridge Island, then gradually work up to creating your own week-long day camp experience with the assistance of a mentor.

Strong applicants will be creative, flexible and dependable undergraduate with a sincere interest in education, science, art, sustainability, or a related field. Skills in education can translate well to many fields, so a variety of majors are encouraged to apply. Experience working with children in the outdoors is preferred. A strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a team will assure success in this position.

Summer Programs Interns will gain valuable skills in experiential education and access to a network of like-minded professionals. Housing for the duration of the program is provided, as well as a food stipend. Our programs are primarily day camps, so at no point will any staff live with campers. College credit may be applied for through your school.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate student working toward a four-year degree with a sincere interest in Environmental/Science/Multicultural Education, Environmental Science, or related field
Some experience working with children and environmental education preferable
Creative, flexible, and able to work closely with a Summer Programs Instructor
Ability to work as a team member
Strong work ethic, punctual, dependable, and ability to work long hours
Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, children, and parents
Must be able to comply with and maintain a smoke-free and drug-free work environment
Current First Aid and CPR required by training start date (WFA desirable but not required)
Must be at least 18 years-old

Housing for the duration of camps (afternoon of June 20 through noon on August 6, 2017)
Food stipend at the beginning of the program
Possible college credit approved by your school
Valuable networking opportunities in the world of environmental & progressive education
