As an Informal Educator, you will lead educational programs, activities, and tours throughout the zoo, reaching a diverse audience of children, parents, and teachers. Informal Educators are also trained to present various Education Ambassador Animals, including invertebrates, reptiles, and mammals. These programs take place during the week, on weekends, and even overnight! All programs help spread the mission of San Antonio Zoo, which is to secure a future for wildlife.
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center holds several special events throughout the year to support the organization’s mission of nature education and conservation. These events range from small private experiences to large family festivals. The position requires very detailed organizational skills, a high level of professionalism, and flexibility. The Arboretum seeks a creative, engaging, and adaptable educator to join the Education Team of Naturalists. We're hiring a full-time Education Specialist to help develop and facilitate educational programs that support our mission both onsite and within a virtual setting . This position is responsible for developing educational content and signage for the facility, conducting educational programming, training new volunteers and engaging with the public. The desired candidate should be positive, able to work independently and in a team setting, and versatile in their educational program delivery.
The Program Coordinators’ responsibilities include but are not limited to acting as the on-call director of the day, managing and mentoring instructors, observing and evaluating instructors, liaising with teachers and school staff leading up to and during their visit, creating a master schedule of staff and activities, and of course working outdoors with students.
Lead tours through Westcave Preserve primarily from morning to late afternoon Tuesdays through Fridays with possible availability on weekends and evenings with an understanding we may require you work some weekends consistently during the summers. During tours you will provide information on the Preserve’s natural history, geology and biology. You will learn the Westcave curriculum and teach as a group leader during field trips for ages PK-graduate level groups.
