Overview:
The Northern Maine National Wildlife Refuge Complex of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking one student or recent graduate with some experience in working with the public and environmental education and a strong desire to learn new skills to serve as a Visitor Services Intern in the summer of 2020. The internship is a supervised work and learning experience based at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge near Calais, Maine. Additional work may take place on other national wildlife refuges in Maine.
The Visitor Services Intern will perform the following tasks:
- · Greet refuge visitors and provide information about the refuge complex.
- · Assist with refuge events such as the Children’s Fishing Derby and Down East Spring Birding Festival.
- · Develop and provide environmental education programs for children and adults
- · Improve the refuge complex’s outdoor interpretive materials
- · May assist with biological program activities (such as bird banding) and other refuge programs depending upon need and interest.
Position length: 13 weeks, May 18 to August 14, 2020

Compensation Information:
- Stipend: $400 per week, $5,200 total
- Housing: Refuge housing is available at no cost in a bunkhouse setting
- Miscellaneous: This position will be filled under a cooperative agreement with the NorthWoods Stewardship Center but will be located at Moosehorn NWR.
