New England Environmental Education Alliance representatives work together to develop and nurture leadership in environmental education through training workshops, professional development opportunities, webinars, and networking events. Our goal is to increase the capacity for states to expand environmental education efforts by leading with vision, increasing funding and resources, promoting and facilitating collaboration, and advocating for environmental literacy at a regional and national level.
The New England Environmental Education Alliance was formed in 1980, with roots that extend back to 1966. That year, a handful of educators in the region decided to meet on an annual basis. The goal was to facilitate communication and friendship among colleagues. Yearly conferences started and participation jumped to 160 people in 1977. In 1980, the steering committee decided to incorporate the New England Environmental Education Alliance.
The Board of Directors is composed of members from the state affiliates of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and at large members from around New England.
