Overview:

The Public Education Supervisor is responsible for managing all aspects of educational and recreational programs within the Natural Areas Division of Louisville Parks and Recreation.  It is based at the 6,600-acre Jefferson Memorial Forest in Louisville, KY.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises public education programs and activities for a department, and develops educational curriculum
Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel

Desirables

Experience developing, enhancing, and managing revenue generating programming and facilities.

Experience developing and managing outdoor experiential learning programming in both natural and urbanized settings. 

Experience working with Americorps and VISTA members as well as volunteers in coordination with other managers and supervisors.

Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and equity as it relates to community access to nature programming.

Experience managing multi-partner and multi-sector partnerships.

Strategic planning experience.

Experience in securing resources (staffing and funding) to support operational needs.

Experience in managing small capital projects valued between $10,000 and $100,000.

Examples of Duties

UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION
Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures
Evaluates educational programs and recommends modifications and improvements to achieve goals and objectives
Assists in the design and dissemination of newsletters, correspondence and brochures to schools and community groups
Participates in career fairs, community festivals and other public gatherings to distribute information and answer questions regarding educational programs
Develops programs and prepares and revises curriculum to meet goals and objectives
Schedules and conducts educational programs and professional development courses for school and corporate groups
Plans and organizes special events, fund raising activities, and volunteer recruiting and training programs
Recommends changes or upgrades to programs, materials, operations and facility design to maximize educational utilization
Performs related work

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree
Communications
Education
English
Journalism
Marketing
Public Relations
Related field

WORK EXPERIENCE
Three years of teaching, training, public information, press or community relations, or marketing experience

EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must provide one's own source of transportation
Must work a varied schedule

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds
Lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds in a team setting
