Overview:

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Applicants must have experience in teaching nature-based programs and/or environmental education. Applicant must have a strong knowledge of the natural history of New England and good organizational skills. Applicant should hold or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications prior to the start of the camp season.

Lead Wildwood’s nature-based programming

  • Consult with the Program Coordinator to ensure all needed supplies are available
  • Have a strong knowledge of the natural history of New England.
  • Work with other Naturalists to develop high-quality nature-rich camp programs.
  • Develop and lead creative nature-based activities that are engaging for campers. Generate excitement for nature programs through personal enthusiasm.
  • Serve as a resource for natural history to other Wildwood staff.
  • Teach a wide variety of nature-related program content to campers, staff and families.
  • Lead drop-in nature programs during camper arrival and departure times.

 

  • Lead the Naturalist program along with a co-leader
  • Lead the Nature Group activities daily
  • Lead nature-based DGs on a regular basis (Afternoon choice blocks "Discovery Groups") 
  • Encourage the development of campers’ interest in nature and the outdoors
  • Create a strong rapport with the campers involved with this program
  • Present the program to the camp community in an engaging manner
  • Collaborate closely with other Naturalists to ensure a smooth, positive program

 

The team of naturalists will maintain all aspects of Wildwood’s gardening program

  • Oversee the planting, care, and harvest of plants in existing garden spaces.
  • Work with the Wildwood Director and/or Program Coordinator to consider additional garden locations.
  • Generate enthusiasm for the garden programs with creative garden themes and activities.
  • Ensure that all members of the Wildwood community (campers, teens, and staff) actively engage with the gardens at some point while at camp.
  • Oversee composting and waste management practices to ensure proper use and disposal of food and other waste at camp.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen to incorporate produce harvested from the gardens into camp meals.

 

Be a contributing member of Wildwood’s seasonal management team

  • Help train and mentor instructors on incorporating sustainability into other programs.
  • Assist in emergency and missing camper procedures.
  • Act as a positive role model for all campers and staff.

 

Act as a full participant in the Wildwood community

  • Abide by all Wildwood and Mass Audubon policies and procedures.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with co-workers.
  • Strive to maintain a high level of personal health and wellness.
  • Attend all meals except during time off.
  • Provide overnight camper coverage when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
