Assistant Director
The Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of the school alongside the Director, including fiscal oversight and budgeting; personnel management; enrollment; program development; professional development; accreditation; and communication with staff, board, parents, and other stakeholders. Additionally, the Assistant Director will serve part-time as a forest school teacher.
Schedule:Â Combination of in-classroom teaching and office-based administration; 30-40 hours per week.
Candidate Must:
- Have an educational background and/or professional experience working with preschool aged children
- Display high aptitude for administrative duties, such as budget development and tracking, teacher assessments, program growth, and marketing
- Display high competence in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, MailChimp, Google Forms, Instagram, and Facebook
- Have an authentic and infectious love of the natural world
- Facilitate developmentally appropriate nature-based preschool programming
- Be comfortable working outside in all types of weather
- Display a playful and patient attitude
- Have the ability to communicate professionally and clearly with staff, board, donors, children, and parents in person, by telephone, and via email
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of Thrive Forest School policies and procedures
- Demonstrate strong emotional intelligence, including empathy and listening skill set
- Demonstrate working knowledge of hazards and risk assessment as related to the environments of young children
- Be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of teaching and administrative duties
- Be available M-F from 8:30am – 4:30pm with some nights and weekends for occasional family programming
- Other duties as assigned
- Submit to a background check, reference checks, and TB test
- Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Be able to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time
Qualifications
- B.A., B.S., or higher degree
- Nature-Based Preschool and/or Forest Kindergarten, experience, training, or certification preferred
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Google Forms, Google Sheets, Instagram, and Facebook
- Ecology or naturalist training preferred
Compensation
- $14-$17 per hour, commensurate with experience
- Comprehensive health care contribution
- 3% match on retirement contributions
