Overview:

Education assistants will spend 2 weeks as field biologists living and working on a seabird nesting island in mid-coast Maine, and then transition to working on tour boats and at the Project Puffin Visitor Center in Rockland, Maine.  Additionally, must be helpful and flexible in helping with overall duties which support our research teams on our seven island field stations, such as driving, shopping, packing, early morning radio checks with offshore islands, etc. etc.

We are looking for outgoing people who have some experience as birders or birdwatchers and who are not afraid to face groups of up to 100+ with narration aboard busy tour boats.   Preferably, these positions are for people either starting out in their careers as environmental educators or for somewhat experienced people looking for a different experience with a seabird restoration program.  Must be okay with being on boats on a regular basis and not get seasick.   Will also act as an Audubon ambassador for our program,  as well sell store items, both on boats and at the center, which support conservation work.  Able to live for 2 weeks in primitive conditions on a Maine island without running water or much electricity or luxuries, and to get along with colleagues in often-times tight quarters.  Should love birds and wildlife.
