I recently got to attend a talk by Dr. Amy Stornaiuolo, an academic focusing on people’s digital literacy practices, especially how digital technologies support cross-cultural learning opportunities.
In her lecture, she talked about key elements of building data literacy in youth, including:
(1) Foregrounding youth perspectives
(2) Situating curricula in personal lives and inquiries
(3) Foregrounding issues of race, power, and positionality
It makes me wonder - how have you effectively engaged youth in data literacy practices? What works in your classroom or program?
