Act Now for EE!

This past week, NAAEE celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Tbilisi declaration. It was a time to reflect on what our field has achieved during the past 40 years, and to think about how we can further our shared goals moving forward. The Tbilisi declaration was groundbreaking, bringing together more than 66 countries who all believed that environmental education was a critical tool in addressing global social, economic, and environmental issues. Since Tbilisi, our field has accomplished many things. If you need a pick-me-up and have three minutes, please be sure to watch this video of highlights! It’s also a time to reflect on where we might go next. As the world changes, so must our priorities for the field of environmental education.

Today I’m writing to each of you to seek your help in shaping an action plan for the future. The Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP) is pleased to announce a global Call for Action. This Call for Action was developed by environmental education leaders from around the world, but it is in draft form. To make this a truly useful tool, we need input from environmental educators like you!

So, I ask you today to please visit ActNowforEE.org; read the draft Call for Action; and weigh in! Once you pick your top actions and recommendations, your responses will be viewable on an interactive map, which you can also view to see how educators from around the world are responding. We’ll leave the survey open through April 22, 2018 (Earth Day), so PLEASE share with your friends and networks.
