This film and education program will be provided FREE to youth, educators, and the public as a way to create awareness about sun bears and their struggle to survive in the Bornean rain forest.
For nearly two decades, Shara Fisler, executive director of Ocean Discovery Institute (ODI) (PAESMEM organization 2010), has worked to transform the futures of children in City Heights, one of San Diego’s most diverse and underserved communities, by engaging them with hands-on marine science and conservation education. Over those years, she and her staff have operated out of a double-wide trailer near San Diego Bay. This fall, Fisler, staff, community members and ODI’s supporters will cut the ribbon on a landmark accomplishment, a new $17 million Living Lab—a science facility and headquarters located in the heart of City Heights.
Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, and the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance scientific research and education for sustainable solid waste management practices, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlines an agreement to join efforts on quantifying food waste in K-12 schools. In addition, the MOU outlines the organizations’ aim to provide tools and resources that help reduce school-based food waste.

It has been under further development since the economic crisis of 2008. It is now offered as a free resource for Eco events like Earth Day, and as a library resource for 1000s of images and translations of the explorers’ journals.

Delivering on another commitment in the President’s Climate Action Plan, the Obama Administration released a new final report called The Impacts of Climate Change on Human Health in the United States: A Scientific Assessment, which significantly advances what we know about the impacts of climate change on public health, and the confidence with which we know it. The report includes an education initiative.
