About World's End:

World’s End Adventure Camp is a children’s day camp located at World’s End in Hingham, MA. This 251-acre coast-scape property offers rocky shores, broad hillsides, and opens fields bracketed by woodlands with sweeping views of the Boston skyline. At camp, we have an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to learning - exploring the fields, shoreline, and forests. Our unique camp will connect children to the land, and the natural systems that support us all, while spending time outdoors, exploring, making friends, and having fun.

Position Summary:

The Lead Camp Educator position at World’s End is a seasonal role - $13-15, commensurate with experience. The typical schedule for the Lead Camp Educator is a 35-40 hour work week, Monday through Friday for the season. The camp season runs from June 26 – August 18 with a week of mandatory training 3 days of training which will take place June 15– June 17. The Lead Camp Educator is primarily responsible for the planning and daily execution of camp programs and activities, the guidance and supervision of assistant counselors, and direct supervision of campers, 5-13 years old.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Daily supervision and safe-keeping of campers
• Provide leadership in: ensuring the safety of campers as their main supervisor; being a liaison for parents; and guiding and supervising assistant counselors in daily camp activities
• Design and implement camp curriculum and activities based on the natural world with support from staff and World’s End resources
• Lead in planning daily age-appropriate activities with the help of the rest of the teaching team
• Lead daily exploration and investigation activities with designated age group (5-6, 7-9, 10-13)
• Communicate with camper parents regarding camp questions and basic camper information
• Perform daily camp staff chores to organize and prepare for each day
• Meet periodically with Camp Director to evaluate experience and performance
• Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental education, the sciences, education, or other relevant course of study is preferred, but not required
• Experience working as a camp counselor, classroom teacher, or informal educator with children ages 5-13
• Must be outgoing, have a willingness to learn
• Must have experience with and enjoy working with children in an outdoor setting
• Knowledge of or interest in nature-based, place-based education
• A desire to share your passion for the natural world with children
• A familiarity with World’s End and The Trustees of Reservations helpful

Other Requirements:

• Reliable transportation
• Must be available for camp staff training week and all 8 weeks of camp
• A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI)
• Community CPR and Basic First Aid certifications required by June 1st, 2017
• Able and willing to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
• Camp Educators must be at least 18 years old
