Overview:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Urban Programs Lead Educator is a full-time, benefitted position, with opportunities for professional growth and development. The Lead Educator is responsible for the delivery and on-site coordination of IslandWood’s Seattle school day program. The program is taught by hourly educators at parks and outdoor locations around the city and augments curriculum for 4th and 5 th grade students in Seattle Public Schools. The curriculum uses a scientific learning approach and puts students’ own community at the center of learning. It seeks to spark in young people a sense of wonder, passion for learning and science, and a desire to care for and steward our environment.

Position Location:
IslandWood’s Seattle office and program sites around Seattle, with occasional trips to IslandWood’s Bainbridge Island Campus and the Brightwater Center in Woodinville for meetings.
Responsibilities:
Delivery and On-site Coordination:
- Provide high quality, rigorous, culturally responsive instruction in urban ecology, ecosystems, stormwater, and technology to 4th and 5th grade students and teachers
- Drive supply van to program sites, manage supplies, communicate with classroom teachers and support curriculum development
- Assist with the training and mentoring of seasonal educators
- Communicate with educators regarding feedback, program information and scheduling via email and in person program briefing and debriefing
Coordinate Program Registration:
- Coordinate program registration using Salesforce database and other online tools
- Communicate with teachers regarding program registration
Project Support/Other:
- Support program data collection and reporting, and other relevant administrative tasks
- Support ongoing curriculum development and revision
- Participate in the design and implementation of evaluation procedures
- Support a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and community
- Collaborate with Urban School Programs team members for smooth working relations
- Participate in relevant IslandWood Education Team and all-staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental education, or equivalent
- At least two years of experience teaching elementary students (in either formal or informal settings)
- Demonstrated ability to work with elementary students and adults in a respectful, culturally-responsive way
- General knowledge of ecology, urban water systems/infrastructure, and other general science content · Interest in learning new computer programs and systems for project management
- Organized and detail-oriented · Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills
- Must be able to comply with and maintain a smoke-free and drug-free work environment
- Must pass child safety screening
- Possess a current Driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Must be able to drive IslandWood’s 15-passenger supply van (must be 25 years old or above)

Compensation Information:
Salary:
$34,000-$37,500 depending on experience, includes full benefits
