Job Description

Essential Function(s) of the Position:

• Plans, develops, coordinates and delivers a variety of interpretive nature programs, activities and special events with an emphasis on summer nature camps.

• Works with the recreation team for special events, day camps and programs.

• Contracts with other instructors to provide additional nature interpretive programs for the community.

• Develops a budget for assigned programs and special events. Manages implementation of approved budget(s); assures actual revenue and expenditures are within budget(s) and recommends changes as appropriate.

• Supervises the day-to-day activities of assigned seasonal staff, contractual employees and volunteers responsible for delivery of recreational programs, activities and special events. Duties include hiring, coordinating work assignments, training and evaluating staff and volunteer performance.

• Conducts regular inspections of the nature trails to assure safe conditions; notifies Parks’ Superintendent of any needed repairs.

• Investigates and resolves issues or concerns relating to natural areas and trails.

• Assists marketing department to develop content and materials for the park bulletin boards and displays, recreation program catalog and press releases to market and promote the natural areas and trails.

• Orders supplies and equipment for assigned programs, activities and special events.

• Establishes and maintains relationships with various naturalist organizations, the media, community agencies and others to foster a positive image of the West Bloomfield Parks & Recreation Commission.

• Plan and coordinate delivery of West Bloomfield Parks & Recreation nature programs, activities and special events.

• Monitors customer satisfaction with recreational programs and activities via surveys and other performance measures.

• Prepares reports regarding divisional operations, statistics and finances as required.

• Cares and maintains the captive animal collection to include reptiles and amphibians. Handles live animals and utilizes them during facilitation of nature interpretive programs.

• Other duties as assigned.
