POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for crafting and communicating the story of ECS and its stakeholders through a variety of mediums, including newsletters, website, videos and social media. This position is also responsible for engaging media to further the reach of the organization’s messages and mission. Under the supervision of the Development Manager, the Communications & Development Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Create and manage an ECS Communications Calendar
  • Produce and send a variety of email content and communications (announcements, e-newsletter, fundraising appeals)
  • Engage with social media audiences by posting content following best practices in social media management and initiating conversations pertinent to the work of Environmental Charter Schools
  • Expand the social media and web presence of Environmental Charter Schools by creating comprehensive strategic campaigns, including campaign content and post-campaign analytics reports
  • Maintain and update ECS websites with fresh content including event announcements, photos, news articles, and newsletters
  • Serve as an excellent storyteller for the organization’s mission through features of students, staff, alumni and families
  • Build authentic communications/media relationships with various constituents and audiences
  • Research new venues and outlets through which ECS can share events and initiatives
  • Work with leadership to identify outreach opportunities and implement campaigns around key programs and issues, including monitoring media cycles and updating media lists
  • Development of media advisories and press releases; proactive outreach to news outlets, with follow up and tracking as necessary
  • Create local angles for national press releases
  • Work with ECS staff to support media coverage of signature events such as Career Day, Green Ambassadors Institute and Earth Carnival
  • Support content creation for ECS collateral and fundraising materials
  • Create system for tracking, analyzing and reporting statistics in order to measure results for website, e-newsletter and other online marketing efforts
  • Support development of the Annual Impact Report for donors and other supporters

DEVELOPMENT

  • Assume responsibilities within the Development Team as directed by the Executive Director and Development Manager, including but not limited to correspondence, donor data entry and donor recognition
  • Coordinate bi-weekly campus tours, including setting up registration forms on website, following-up with guests prior to and after visits, collecting data on tour guide scholarship donations and training and management of student tour guides
  • Support the management of donor database
  • Support event planning, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • At least three years of experience in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Advanced MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Proficiency in website maintenance and backend programming including HTML required
  • Social media savvy including experience with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and YouTube including experience tracking analytics and reporting
  • Familiarity with MailChimp and Wordpress
  • Familiarity with Donor CRM
  • Experience working on collaborative and shared documents
  • Experience with fundraising and development activities
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends to cover events
  • Ability to shoot and edit video/photography a plus
