Typical responsibilities:

  1. Program planning, development, and coordination.
    • assesses need and opportunity for experience-based/learning programs within Idaho’s State Parks;
    • plans, develops and evaluates programs;
    • establishes statewide goals, policies, procedures and priorities;
    • assists in the development of interpretive standards for programs, exhibits, publications, and public presentations;
    • develops and controls operating budget;
    • writes/approves grant proposals for funding;
    • reviews, recommends and purchases program equipment, facilities, resources;
    • coordinates implementation of programs with regional and park staff; researches and evaluates individual park program/educational opportunities;
    • recommends program improvements including budgeting and staffing needs to implement recommendations;
    • organizes and coordinates individual park experience-based/education programs;
    • provides direction and training to staff and volunteers;
    • coordinates experience-based/educational program with educators, teachers, naturalists, and historians.
  2. Consultation, technical assistance and training.
    • provides consultation and technical assistance to parks as they implement their experience-based/educational programs,
    • develops and presents training to department staff on experience –based/education program planning and development,
    • assists with organizing program volunteers, seasonal recruitment, and hiring;
    • develops brochures and pamphlets;
    • develops and manages contracts for research and services;
    • creates content for the internet, and;
    • represents the department at meetings, conferences, and workshops.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • College coursework from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation, or other closely related field.
  • Experience and considerable knowledge of: design, creation and implementation of experience-based/education programs; natural, cultural and recreational resources within, proper use and protection of park resources.
  • Good knowledge of: education techniques and evaluating data.
  • Experience: managing, developing and presenting experience-based/education programs; interpreting technical material for a variety of age and interest groups.
  • A valid driver’s license.

EXAMINATION:

Education and Experience. Scores are based on the narrative responses to the questions on the exam as verified by the work history, education and resume. You must have the minimum level of experience or education described for each question to qualify for this position. A minimum rating of 70 is needed to pass this examination. Notification of your test results will be available online when the review process is complete. Applicants who do not Apply Online will receive written notification.
