Essential Functions:

• Coordinate and communicate with RFOV staff, agency land managers and community collaborators to achieve RFOV’s Young Stewards Initiative program goals.
• Facilitate stewardship projects and programs for youth of various ages with attention to proper program framework including sustainability education component, mentorship, and evaluation
• Continue to develop, conduct outreach for, and implement YSI programs including RFOV’s Sustainable Outdoor Leadership program (SOL) implemented in local schools
• Use feedback and evaluations from RFOV’s Young Stewards Initiative to review and modify programs as appropriate
• Conduct outreach to organizations, schools and other youth groups to stimulate interest and awareness, build relationships, and recruit groups to participate in the program. Cultivate existing relationships with schools and youth groups. Assist in identifying ways to support and sustain outreach efforts through marketing, RFOV volunteers and partners, and other community resources.
• Write grants for YSI
• Continually enhance expertise in outdoor education, trail and restoration techniques, and leadership. Educate self, youth, and volunteers in alpine ecology and Leave No Trace principles.
• Evaluate and report progress and accomplishments of the program.
• Other tasks as assigned to contribute to the overall implementation and operations of RFOV’s projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a strong passion and ability to lead, engage, relate, and work with youth including a well-developed bag of tricks (games, motivators, ice breakers, techniques, etc.)
• Considerable experience in outdoor education and/or teaching
• Proven experience with program development and implementation.
• Proven experience in program coordination and logistical planning.
• Experience in fund-raising.
• Must be self-directed, highly motivated, reliable, with a result and solution oriented perspective, organized with an attention to detail, flexible, and have strong time-management skills.
• Ability to pro-actively solve problems, work independently, manage multiple tasks, delegate as necessary, and be creative and resourceful.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills applicable to a group outdoor setting.
• Strong conservation ethic and belief in RFOV’s mission, with solid commitment to and understanding of stewardship and how to cultivate it.
• Excellent physical condition with the ability to perform regular and recurring physical exertion. (Work projects may require hiking up to 7 miles per day at altitude, using heavy hand tools, extensive heavy stonework, and working and contributing as part of a team.)
• Proficiency in travelling (hiking and navigating) in mountain environments.Other desirable qualifications include:
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred; however, applicable work experience may substitute for educational preferences
• Spanish language skills are strongly preferred but not required
• Experience working for or with land management agencies
• Outdoor work experience such as trail building/maintenance and/or tree planting
• Supervisory experience

Work Schedule: The weekly work schedule will be variable with weekend and occasional evenings required.  Travel with a personal vehicle is required.
