Overview:

The Refuge Operations Intern will work with the refuge manager and refuge volunteers to achieve refuge operations, conservation and restoration needs and gain a wide variety of experience with responsibilities related to three basic functions: habitat management, biology, and visitor services/facilities. Most responsibilities will be at the South Coast Office, Bandon Marsh NWR and Oregon Islands NWR.

  • Identify, monitor, map, and remove invasive plants
  • Participate in a coastal prairie restoration project at Crook Point. This will involve camping at a remote field site with no running water or electricity
  • Conduct weekly nest monitoring of black oystercatchers at Crook Point
  • Assist with bi-monthly mosquito monitoring activities at the Ni-les’tun marsh at Bandon Marsh NWR
  • Assist with pollinator garden activities including organizing volunteer days, planting, seeding and weeding
  • Maintain existing trails and communicate with the public on a variety of conservation topics

April 1-Sept 30, 2022

• Some undergrad coursework in biology, environmental science, recreation & park management, or related fields. A Bachelors Degree preferred
