Overview:
Our mission at the Mississippi Aquarium is to be a premier institution delivering awe-inspiring entertainment experiences which supports animal research and conservation, inspires learning, and instills a passion for the aquatic world. The Interpreter II will enhance guest experience at the Mississippi Aquarium by teaching about the habitats and animals found in Mississippi, the Gulf Coast, and beyond. Qualified individuals should have extensive experience in public speaking and a high level of comfort in interpreting static and live exhibits as well as presenting presentations, tours, and educational programs.
Responsibilities:
- Teach guests about the animals and mission of the Aquarium while also conducting presentations, behind-the-scenes tours, and other guest experience programs.
- Use exceptional public speaking skills to create meaningful connections with guests and facilitate learning opportunities.
- Respond to guests in a positive and courteous manner.
- Actively seek opportunities for guest interaction; answer questions regarding a wide variety of aquarium topics and guide guests through the aquarium.
- Ensure a superior customer service experience that exceeds MSAQ’s standard of excellence.
- Help maintain aquarium grounds and exhibits.
- Follow and enforce guest policies and safety procedures.
- Attend all relevant meetings and trainings.
- Assist managers with guest concerns and utilize excellent customer service and innovation to address challenges.
- Work in a collaborative team environment, cross-train and support all other Guest Experience areas with projects, planning, and training.
- Work weekends, evenings, holidays and overnights when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Associate’s degree in education, science, or related field.
- Strong verbal and writing skills.
- Knowledge of current practices in conservation, scientific research, and environmental education practices.
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions including extreme heat, wind, and rain.
- Strong public speaking skills and comfortable around small and large groups of different ages.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
