Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; flexible; some nights and weekends

Work Location: Bainbridge Island Campus

Pay Range: $60,000 to 65,000 annually

Overview:
IslandWood provides exceptional learning experiences to inspire lifelong environmental and community stewardship. The Senior Faculty provides leadership in defining and supporting the Professional Learning Community for IslandWood’s core campus educational programs, and provides vision, leadership, and direction to make the educational application of teaching skills and strategies active components of the educational programs. The Professional Learning Community exists to support program evolution and improvement of IslandWood’s core campus programs including the Graduate Program and Day Programs for Youth and Families. We are a team-oriented, collaborative organization that nurtures a respectful, professional workplace. This position works very closely with the Director of Youth and Family Programs to collaboratively design and implement the highly integrated practicum program between the two departments. We’re working to build a staff that reflects the racial, cultural, and socio-economic diversity of the students we serve.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Lead on design, implementation, and analysis of the EEC practicum program to support graduate student
teaching and learning of culturally sustaining informal pedagogies
▪ Lead practicum training and debrief meetings
▪ Design and support graduate professional learning community
▪ Model and teach IslandWood pedagogical approaches
▪ Mentor grad students
• Design and support mentoring program, train mentors and support mentor learning in JEDI informed ways
• Design and implementation of STEM programming in EEC and Youth and Families Programs
• Teach graduate-level courses in the EEC program in collaboration with the University of Washington
• Define and enact the Professional Learning Community within IslandWood’s core campus programs so that
practices become an active and positive part of the program culture
• Teach in and support grad program
▪ Teach graduate level courses and seminars
▪ Provide systems to support ongoing action research at IslandWood
▪ Supervise graduate students’ independent study projects
• Provide support for Youth and Families Programs
• Advocate for cross-program team communication and support
• Support and participate in the evaluation of current year’s model and plan for next year
• Provide evidence of IslandWood program impacts to teams further from program delivery
• Catalyze opportunities for non-education staff to experience Education programming
• Support & help develop assessment and evaluations systems for programs
• Represent IslandWood by presenting at educational conferences that are in-line with responsibilities
• Commitment to support IslandWood’s work towards social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
• Support IslandWood’s strategic plan to expand our mission and impact, and commitment to mission, vision,
values and goals of IslandWood

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in education, environmental education or science, biology, ecology, or related field
• Effective instructional skills coupled with experience mentoring pre-service and in-service educators
• Minimum 3 years teaching experience in formal and/or informal settings (leadership experience in
residential or nature center setting desirable)
• Successful leadership experience in designing professional learning communities for teachers – preferably
in non-traditional settings
• Ability to integrate creative experiential programs and work with elementary students and adults in a
dynamic, respectful, rigorous, creative, and enthusiastic way
• Demonstrate IslandWood's core values that enable teams and individuals to succeed with shared respect
and purpose
• Ability to work and communicate with diverse teams and with a diverse range of people or communities
• Proficiency in planning, organization, and project management
• Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification; IW can provide
• Must be able to comply with and maintain a smoke-free and drug-free work environment
• Must pass child safety screening procedure; post offer.
