Environmental Educators teach engaging, hands-on lessons focused on life and earth science, coastal ecology, and marine science. Other duties include captive wildlife care (reptiles, amphibians and fresh and saltwater aquaria), helping facilitate dining and counter sales operations, and upkeep of facilities and grounds. Compensation includes $11/hour (most work weeks can be up to 40 hours, but not guaranteed), limited health insurance, and three weeks of paid staff training that includes exposure to all class activities, teaching techniques, classroom management skills, animal husbandry, and CPR/first aid certification. Fully furnished on-site housing with private bed runs $80/month. The season follows the traditional school year calendar from mid-August to late May, with a typical two-week break for the winter holiday season. In some cases, additional spring staff are hired in December/January to finish off the season.
