The Field Museum’s Keller Science Action Center (KSAC) translates museum science and collections into results for conservation and quality of life. The Urban Conservation Educator supports this goal by building meaningful connections between people and the nature around them and training the next generation of environmental leaders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Co-lead the Youth Conservation Action initiative, including annual program planning, data management, evaluation support, and tracking spending. Co-lead internal communications and coordination. Facilitate team meetings and processes
• Lead the Mighty Acorns Partnership-- a nature-based curriculum for 3rd to 5th graders with more than a dozen participating organizations--in in the Chicago Wilderness region. Grow and expand the partnership by supporting existing partners, recruiting and onboarding new partners, organizing professional development and networking events, conducting planning and strategic visioning, and supporting curriculum development. Support Mighty Acorns Partnership fundraising and grant management activities, including grant writing, project tracking, budget development, and reporting
• Lead Mighty Acorns field trips for local schools. Plan and organize all trip logistics and carry out three seasonal field trips per class per school year that adhere to the Mighty Acorns curriculum and relevant Field Museum protocols. Support Mighty Acorns teacher professional development and instructional support in coordination with YCA team
• Build strong center-wide, museum and community connections through events, communications, and outreach

Qualifications:

• Degree in environmental science, social science, education, or equivalent field experience
• 3 years experience in environmental education and/or conservation science and stewardship training
• Demonstrated success managing multiple projects at the same time
• Knowledge of local ecology and natural history
• Experience working outdoors with community organizations, youth, and educators
• Willingness and ability to travel within the Chicago region frequently
• Computer proficiency and strong interpersonal skills
• Preference for experience collaborating with communities in the Chicago region
• Fluency in Spanish (preferred)
