Overview:

The Summer Programs Intern teams with experienced field instructors to create, plan and provide a variety of educational programs for youth. At our 250-acre outdoor learning center, IslandWood invites children and adults alike to discover a new way of seeing nature, themselves, and one another. In doing so, each person comes to understand their ability to change the world for the better. IslandWood operates traditional day camp programs for young campers. These experiences directly address IslandWood’s mission of inspiring lifelong learning and environmental and community stewardship.

Position Summary:
The Summer Programs Intern teams with experienced field instructors to create, plan and provide a variety of educational programs for youth. Our programs are primarily day camps, with specialty programs more focused on academics throughout the summer. All programs are united by a core framework that includes embracing adventure, exploring concepts of stewardship, living and learning in community, and engaging with place. The Summer Programs Intern will gain valuable skills in experiential education and access to a network of like-minded
professionals. This program provides valuable skills in teaching, behavior management, reflection, and community building. Begin the summer by getting to know our forest on Bainbridge Island, then gradually work up to creating your own week-long day camp experience with the assistance of a mentor.

Classification: Unpaid Internship
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:30a to 4:20p (5:00p on Fridays)
Pay Rate: Unpaid Internship
Benefits Package: Housing for the duration of camps; 22 June through 31 July 2021 (07 Aug week optional); Food stipend at the beginning of program; Possible college credit; approved by your school
