A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN BUTTERFLY ATTENDANT

A Butterfly Attendant receives and manages all butterfly chrysalis shipments, manages butterfly chambers, and maintains associated records. The Butterfly Attendant is responsible for general husbandry of the zoo's Lepidoptera species and educational interpretation and training - as directed.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work is making a difference in wildlife conservation.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR BUTTERFLY ATTENDANT

Ability to work comfortably among a diverse population.
Ability to work safely around delicate Lepidoptera.
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively in English, professionally presenting biological and historical information.
Knowledge of arthropod-related citizen science projects preferred.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and navigating multiple platforms.
Online database management experience preferred.
A 4-day weekly commitment will include Thursdays and Fridays.
Knowledge of native and exotic Lepidoptera.
Understanding of USDA/APHIS PPQ requirements for 'exotic' Lepidoptera
Comfortable working in tight spaces.
Responsibility for completion of all online training curriculum by assigned deadline.
Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
Must be able to work in varying climates and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, and/or cold).

WORK SCHEDULE

We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments.
