Overview:

Latta Nature Preserve with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation in Charlotte, NC is seeking an interpretive host to facilitate guest experiences at our new 13,000 ft2 Quest facility. Duties will include providing information and interpretive experiences within the center’s exhibit hall, which interprets the importance of water within Latta Nature Preserve and Mountain Island Lake. This is a full-time seasonal position from May - October.

Position details: Latta Nature Preserve is seeking an interpretive host to facilitate guest experiences at our new 13,000 ft2 Quest facility. Duties will include providing information and interpretive experiences within the center’s exhibit hall, which interprets the importance of water within Latta Nature Preserve and Mountain Island Lake. 

Full-time seasonal position. 35-40 hours per week May through October. $12.63/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and provide orientation and interpretive opportunities for visitors to the nature preserve.
  • Develop and present interpretive programs in Quest’s exhibit hall.
  • Perform customer service duties including answering phones, taking program registrations, and working the cash register.
  • Perform daily center operations including cash handling duties, opening and closing, and other upkeep tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate with guest service staff and volunteers of the Carolina Raptor Center.
  • Assist with the care and feeding of exhibit and program animals.
  • Assist with center operations on weekends, evenings, and holidays as assigned.
  • Assist with special events, garden maintenance, and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications: Applicants should have or be working toward a BS/BA degree in one of the following fields: natural/environmental sciences, environmental education, recreation, or related field. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
