Overview:

Montana Conservation Corps is seeking a new senior leader to join our team to guide the experiences of over 400 corps participants a year. This position is for an experienced manager with an interest and passion for developing young leaders, contributing to social change, and improving our environment. As a member of our Executive Leadership Team, this position reports directly to the CEO and supervises all MCC corps member development activities.

Position Overview:

The Vice President for Programs is responsible for the oversight, management, and implementation of all MCC programming including young adult crew based, individual placement, high school youth, and indigenous programs.  The Vice President for Programs is supervised by the President/CEO and serves as the primary liaison between the Executive Management Team and program director staff.  

Primary duties include designing MCC programs, developing agency policy and curricula, overseeing the implementation of corps member and staff training, working closely with program staff to ensure high-quality implementation of all program delivery, evaluation of program effectiveness, and supporting program staff with issues of behavior, well-being, and safety of members. The Vice President for Programs will be involved in foundation grant writing and philanthropy efforts to support MCC programs.

The Vice President for Programs is also the MCC Safety Officer and oversees the functioning of the MCC Risk Management Committee. The Vice President for Programs must develop and maintain a good working relationship with MCC state and program staff, MCC board of directors, external consultants, and MCC participants.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Programmatic Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a vision for MCC programming in alignment with the mission, values, and resources of the organization and aligned with the MCC strategic plan and program identity
  • Develop partnerships with indigenous nations and determine how MCC can support indigenous program models based upon local needs
  • Oversee the design and development of all curriculum and programming elements including training of leaders, anti-racism and DEI training, mental health and sexual misconduct training
  • Develop and ensure the implementation of agency program and risk management policies
  • Convene and guide the agency Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion staff team
  • Work with staff to address and respond to safety, mental health, and behavioral incidents.
  • Coordinate physical and mental health consultants support for program staff and participants
  • Develop and monitor member and program evaluation process, and create and monitor program tracking and reporting system
  • Deliver staff and member training
  • Periodically visit crews in the field to assess the quality of program implementation

Management Responsibilities:

  • Participate in regular Executive Management and other team meetings
  • Oversee compliance with AmeriCorps Grant performance measures and MSY enrollment
  • In partnership with the VP of Finance and Operations and program directors, coordinate annual crew structure and budget planning for MCC programs
  • Participate in periodic management and strategic planning efforts to inform current and long-term planning and management needs, including staffing, organizational structure, etc.
  • Represent the MCC with the Governor’s Office of Community Service – AmeriCorps grant reviews, Program Directors meeting, Service Symposium planning
  • Organize and facilitate the MCC Risk Management Committee
  • Attend MCC Board meetings, contribute to board agendas, provide periodic reports to the board of directors, and facilitate select board committees
  • Represent MCC with dignitaries, donors, political figures, and other visitors as needed
  • Perform office administration duties such as phone, mail, filing, etc.
  • Complete periodic AmeriCorps grant reports
  • Support and advise Program Directors in the development of project partnerships and schedules
  • With support from CEO and Fund Development staff, the VPP may develop and write grant proposals to support program activities

Supervision Exercised:

  • Directly supervise and guide the Conservation Corps Director, Director of Individual Placement Programs, the Associate Director of Youth Programs, and Statewide Program Manager
  • Directly supervise and guide Indigenous program staff who may be hired
  • Develop agenda for MCC staff meetings and identify and coordinate MCC staff training needs
  • Work closely with all agency personnel in a supportive, advisory or supervisory manner
  • Participate in the hiring, management, and evaluation of program director staff
  • Participate in hiring committees for other staff positions as needed

Qualifications & Skills:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university.
  • Strong interpersonal and administrative skills. 
  • Experience in corps program design, training development and delivery, education, and youth development.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Background or experience with organizational risk management concepts and management
  • Five years of management experience.
  • Able to speak effectively before groups.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly in and out of state.
  • Facility with use of MS Office, Google Suite, and electronic communications
  • A valid driver’s license and ability to be insurable per MCC parameters.
