Overview:
This is a forest school teaching position for EdenAcres Environmental Education, in Forest Grove, Oregon. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who can work independently as well as in a team, is confident in working with children of various ages and abilities, enjoys being out of doors - rain or shine - , and finds a job that offers new adventures each day energizing. Teaching Mon/Wed/Fri. ~30 hours per week. $13.00 - $19.00/hour DOE. Possible addition of Tuesday/Thursday site maintenance and program development for an additional 10 hrs/wk
Responsibilities:
- Nature Days - Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8am-3:30pm
- Collaborate with other teachers to deliver nature-based, experiential learning for children 6-12
- Provide a safe environment at all times
- Hold students in an artful and kind way through thick and thin
- Maintain the rhythm of the day
- Communicate clearly with parents and students
- Communicate clearly with other instructors
- Handle emergency situations safely and effectively
- Facilitate contactless dropoff and pickup
- Ensure safe spaces by sanitizing tools, materials, and touch surfaces after children have used them or been in the space
Preferred Characteristics:
- Passion for outdoor and experiential education
- Experience working with children/youth ranging from k-12 in diverse and often challenging situations
- Basic forest/primitive skills
- Knowledge of native flora and fauna
- Wilderness first aid
- Love and appreciation for the natural world
Requirements:
- CPR & First Aid, Epi-pen training
- Full rain and winter gear
- Be able to lift at least 50 lbs
- Be on feet for long periods of time
- Grit and compassion
