Overview:
The successful candidate will work with a team of dedicated and supportive environmental educators presenting standard-based curricula as well as less-structured, more student-driven programming.
Primary Duties
- Teach standard-based environmental education programs for local schools.
- Prepare and execute education programs for children, families, adults, school groups, homeschool groups, and birthday parties.
- Lead approximately five sessions of summer camp throughout June, July, and August. Curriculum development may be needed.
- Teach evening and over-night programs, on an as scheduled basis Friday nights + Saturday mornings.*As needed basis.
- Lead and engage ELC volunteers and interns, district school teachers, and adult chaperones.
- Work as a supportive member of the ELC education team.
- Create education pieces for marketing and social media.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in environmental studies, education, or related science/natural resource field preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant teaching experience with youth audiences (informal, outdoor experience preferred).
- Ability to manage children outdoors; must be able to observe student/camper behavior and implement appropriate behavior management techniques as needed.
- Love of the outdoors, knowledge of ecology, interest in natural history, and leader in sustainable living.
- Basic knowledge of Florida ecosystems.
- Current first-aid and CPR certificate.
- Current Life Guard certification preferred.
