Overview:
Little House in the Forest is seeking an educator starting in September 2020 to assist the lead educator/director with three morning Forest School classes per week.
The ideal candidate will love children and their play, have experience working with ages 3 - 7 years old, enjoy being outdoors in all weathers and be open to Forest School, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf & enquiry-based learning. The ethos focuses on the personal development of the children. There will be seasonal celebrations, arts and crafts, stories, bush crafts, cooking, games, nature hikes and more!
There is an option to rent a small single person cabin on site if needed.

Role and duties:
- Ensure safeguarding and health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to and applied at all times. (As outlined in the handbook)
- Ensure the children in our care receive appropriate gentle care, loving kindness, and supervision at all times.
- Through sensitive and careful interactions (talking, listening, teaching, observing) support the children in setting and achieving their own aims, and extend and challenge their understanding and knowledge in all areas of learning.
- Demonstrate high expectations of the children in all aspects of their development, from self-care to communication and language.
- Form caring, loving and appropriate relationships with the children in our care.
- Form positive relationships with the parents of our children.
- Ensure that all children are offered equal opportunities.
- Helping set up class, packing away afterwards and generally keeping site and equipment maintained. To include installing tarpaulins during wet weather, helping prepare camp fires.
- Undertaking all the practical aspects of looking after 3–7 year-olds and ensuring their wellbeing; e.g. helping them change, ensuring hands are washed, helping them at meal times, making sure they are warm enough, offering comfort in times of distress, etc.
- Regularly communicating with parents and carers, giving them daily feedback about their child’s day.
- Assist leader with dynamic assessments of each student’s personal development.
- Communication with leader regarding observations of children to help plan curriculum.
- Photography during class and help with uploading photos for children and parents to access.
- Assisting with activities and projects and preparing for festivals.
- Maintaining an active interest in Forest School, Reggio and Waldorf educational approaches.
- Carry out all duties and planned activities to a high standard every time, within the agreed hours.
Hours: will be 8:30am - 1:30pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. With some additional hours for planning.
There are breaks for the school holidays. Summer program dates to be confirmed.
Pay: $17 - 19 per hour depending on expereince.
Insurance: You will be covered under the business insurance policy for liability, during the classes.
First Aid: You will need to be trained in pediatric first aid. (Can be done online after being hired).
Background Check: A background check would need to be done prior to starting work.
Starting: first day of school is September 8th 2020
