Overview:
Responsibilities:
Program Development and Execution:
- Ensures the development and implementation of comprehensive and integrated suite of youth development programs
- Leads program planning process
- Guides program staff in fulfilling program goals and outcomes
- Sets program budgets and manages spending
- Coordinates daily, weekly, and seasonal programmatic priorities
Staff Supervision and Development:
- Ensures that a highly qualified staff successfully meets program goals
- Supervises at least five full time program staff, offering regular guidance at both a team and individual level
- Builds a team environment with all program and administrative staff
- Facilitates in house trainings, or secures outside trainings for staff in areas such as youth development, trauma-informed care, nonviolent communication/restorative practices, mindfulness and environmental exploration
- Hires, orients, and trains new staff
Program Evaluation:
- Ensures the development and implementation of comprehensive evaluation plan to measure impact of Solar Youth on youth, families, neighborhoods and the environment
- Oversees the collection and analysis of program data
- Oversees development of Program Outcome Reports
- Work closely with the Director of External Relations to provide data needed for grants and contracts
Program Facilities, Equipment, and Safety:
- Ensures that the physical resources are in place to facilitate safe and successful programming
- Oversees management and maintenance of program spaces at two locations
- Develops new protocols in response to changing needs due to Covid-19 pandemic
Community Relations:
- Ensures that Solar Youth has a consistent and active presence among relevant communities and affinity groups
- Represents Solar Youth at community meetings, events, and conferences
- Develops strategic partnerships with local organizations
- Oversees the capturing of program stories in order to share the impact of Solar Youth with families, the community, partners and funders
Culture and Strategic Leadership:
- As a member of Solar Youth’s leadership team, poses strategic questions and challenges the “status quo”
- Initiates problem-solving when systems and protocols are broken, inefficient, or in need of change to improve impact
- Participates in upcoming strategic planning process to help envision our next phase as an organization
Qualifications
- Strong candidates will have at least five years’ experience in non-profit management and program development and demonstrated experience in the following:
- Developing and managing multiple program staff in educational environments
- Holding direct reports accountable to meeting programmatic objectives
- Youth development and/or organizing
- Experiential education and/or environmental education
Organizational planning and problem solving
- Mindfulness practice and nonviolent communication (prior experience preferred)
- Microsoft Office and Google Docs/Sheets. Experience with some data management software (we use Salesforce)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field preferred (ideally in something related to the environment, education or social work, but not required if competencies built in non-formal ways)
