Overview:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build partnerships and work with local communities through Educational Service Units, Zoos, Natural Resource Districts, Wildcat Hills Nature Center, Children and Nature in Our Parks, Nebraska Alliance for Conservation for Environmental Education, and other conservation organizations and initiatives already active in the area.
  • Conduct, update, innovate, and revamp existing programs and outreach events of the Nebraska Education Program. Including Bird Banding Stations, school-based nature clubs, environmental service learning coordination, bioblitzes and general presentations.
  • Hire and supervise the Nebraska Wildlife Education Assistant, and co-hire and co-supervise seasonal Nebraska bird banders.
  • Manage current grant budgets and deliverables and continue pursuing further grant funding for the Nebraska Education Program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (unless otherwise noted):

  • Solid understanding of environmental education standards and philosophy.
  • General knowledge of biology and ecology, specifically to ecosystems found in Western Nebraska.
  • Specific knowledge and experience regarding bird identification, bird banding, ornithology, and the natural history of birds.
  • Ability to lift/carry 40 pounds, stand, walk and hike for extended periods of time and work outdoors in all conditions.
  • Excellent organizational, logistical and time-management skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and roles efficiently with little direct guidance, rapidly adapt to changing environment.
  • Responsible, creative, relational, enthusiastic, flexible, and resourceful team player; self-motivated, results-oriented, and dedicated to providing clients with quality and enriching experiences.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, life sciences, environmental interpretation, or education with two years of working experience in a related field required. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Experience developing, marketing, administering, leading, and evaluating environmental education/interpretation programs in formal and non-formal outdoor classroom settings.
  • Experience and confidence delivering scientific messages to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in fundraising and budget management. 
  • Experience coordinating and supervising a diverse educator pool.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (WFA or WFR preferred).
