Overview:

Camp Instructors participate in all aspects of the zoo's summer camp program, including supervising campers, and developing and presenting lessons.

  • Implement engaging hands-on camp activities including zoo tours, science activities, arts and crafts, animal encounters, songs and skits, and games for participants ages 5-10.
  • Provide high quality group management to groups of children of varying ages.
  • Provide direction to teen volunteers.
  • Organize and maintain camp supplies.
  • Provide information to general zoo visitors.
  • Handle and present live animals to groups of children of varying ages
  • Other duties as assigned by the Camp Coordinator / Education Programs Manager / Director of Education

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or pursuing a degree in the area of education, zoology, biology, recreation, or related field required.  CPR / First Aid certification required. Certified teachers preferred.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of the field of education, zoology, biology, recreation, or related field.
  • Experience: Previous camp, education and/or science experience preferred. Ability to work well with people of all ages. Must be able to follow directions. Must be responsible, dependable, creative, flexible, and enthusiastic.
