Dr. Oren Pizmony-Levy, Associate Professor in the Department of International and Transcultural Studies at Teachers College at Columbia University, discussed how social movements influence the education system during his keynote address at the NAAEE 2019 Research Symposium. He provided an overview of how movements, including the accountability and LGBTQ+ movement, can impact and engage students to move the dialogue further in fields like environmental education.

Dr. Levy’s research interests center on the analysis of movements in education, such as accountability, environmentalism, sustainability, and sexuality. He examines these cases with a comparative or cross-national research design that uses quantitative and qualitative methods and social network analysis.
