Overview:
Essential Functions:
- Reports to YEP Program Managers and works within a small team to support YEP programming
- Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities
- Coordinate with YEP Program Managers to assess needs for volunteer assistance
- Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
- Send out bi-monthly emails of upcoming programs at YEP to ensure volunteers are staffed to support the various areas of operations, to include belaying, exhibits and education, special events, and overall staff support while out in the field
- Organize and implement volunteer orientations and trainings
- Maintain new and ongoing volunteer paperwork
- Organize volunteer appreciation programs and special events
- Regularly evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure program effectiveness and promote positive cooperation
- Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation
- Attend/host community outreach opportunities and recruiting events
** Opportunity to assist with field instruction as needed
Qualifications:
- Must love working with youth!
- 21 years or older, able to pass a background check and maintain a clean driving background
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience gained through work) – Preferred in Communications, Non-profit management and/or volunteer coordination, Outdoor Education, Education, Natural Sciences, or Environmental Studies
- Experience with volunteer organizations
- Ability to motivate and manage individuals and groups
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – ability to relate to children and adults of all ages
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Some evenings and weekends required
- Ability to provide personal transportation to and from the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, CO
**Outdoor educational skills in core programming areas: hiking, climbing, teambuilding, snow science, and nature/ecology are a plus.
