  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 3 years experience in Environmental Education, Outdoor Education, Camping, Teambuilding or a related field.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess strong teaching skills and the ability to lead, train, develop and assess program staff.
  • Level II Challenge Course Practitioner certification or the ability to attain the certification within 6 months.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of set up and facilitation of groups on a variety of challenge course elements.
  • Experience and comfortability working with diverse groups in a teambuilding environment.
  • Ability and skills to give high level customer service.
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Be a strong leader and be able to work well with a team of others.
  • Be physically fit and have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

General Description:

The School Programs and Teambuilding Coordinator will be responsible for the planning and implementation of residential and day trips attending Frost Valley through the School Programs and Teambuilding Departments. This includes the scheduling of classes, communication with teachers and administrators, coordination between FV departments and supervision and development of our team of Program Instructors.

The School Programs Department works with approximately 200 schools bringing 16,000 students and teachers to Frost Valley each year. We work with a very diverse set of schools primarily from New York City, Long Island and northern New Jersey, offering you an opportunity to enrich the lives of young people throughout the school year. The Frost Valley School Programs Department strives to provide every student with an opportunity to develop stronger connections with others, deeper connections within their self and a greater connection with the natural world.

The School Programs and Teambuilding Coordinator will also be responsible for hosting, facilitating, and directly working with all Teambuilding Department groups throughout the year. The work schedule for the position is based on groups and can include long work stretches and weekend work.  The Teambuilding Department works with approximately 60 groups and 2500 guests during the year, including but not limited to school-age, college, business, special interest and leadership groups. When there are multiple groups, the Program Coordinator will assign a qualified instructor to assist in facilitating groups. The Coordinator will recruit groups, follow leads, and will have the primary responsibility for group retention. The Coordinator will provide excellent guest services. The Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of custom programming and services for each teambuilding group.

The School Programs and Teambuilding Coordinator will be expected to actively contribute to the betterment of the programs, work to inspire and develop our team of Program Instructors and model Frost Valley’s 8 core values; stewardship, diversity, inclusiveness, respect, community, honesty, caring, and responsibility.

Responsibilities:

School Programs Department Coordination Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate school visits with the School Programs Department and act as the primary contact for schools before and during their stay. This includes contacting schools before the trip, creating the weekly schedule for staff and schools, ensuring the success of each school’s trip while on site and maintaining evaluations and records for each school.
  • Travel to do off-site presentations to school teachers and parents.
  • Work with Director of School Programs and School Programs Coordinator to meet the department mission, develop the department culture as well as create, implement and accomplish the School Programs departmental goals.

Teambuilding Department Coordination Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and lead-facilitate all Teambuilding Department groups during the year including communication prior to visit, creation of group schedules, program development, requesting staff, booking facilities and resources, delivery of workshops, facilitating large group activities as well as low and high ropes elements.
  • Work with Teambuilding Department groups to establish group goals and create tailored programs including but not limited to the areas of leadership development, strategic planning, and experiential education. 
  • Create schedules and the tools to share group goals and information.
  • Work with the Director of Business Development to assist in the roll-over and scheduling of all returning teambuilding groups.
  • Travel to recruit new Teambuilding groups.
  • Focus on maintaining a high retention rate and creating year-round connections by conducting evaluations, returning calls in a 24 hour period, sending thank you notes, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Communicate specific program and staffing needs with the School Programs, Teambuilding, and Group and Family Retreats departments.
  • Direct supervision of a team of 22-30 Program Instructors shared between the School Programs, Groups and Family Retreats and Teambuilding Departments.
  • Participate in Program Instructor hiring, training and development including observations, feedback, evaluation, training, mentorship and inspiration.

Year Round Program and Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Evening and overnight on-call coverage. 
  • Participate actively and productively in weekly and monthly staff meetings.
  • Be a Frost Valley certified Ropes Rescuer and participate in the monthly rescue on-call schedule during the school year.
  • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with all FV support departments as related to School Programs and Teambuilding groups.
  • Fully utilize and keep all group information up to date in the Thinsoft database and maintain other Departmental record-keeping responsibilities.
  • Assist with teaching classes as needed.
  • Maintain program equipment, program areas, and curriculum.
  • Implement and model excellent risk management practices.
  • Assist with staff training and development for other departments as needed.
  • Assist with managing an annual budget through expense control, purchasing, and recommended purchases.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in the outdoors under harsh weather conditions on uneven terrain.
  • Be friendly and customer service oriented while maintaining a professional atmosphere.

Compensation Information:

$13-$14/hr DOE. Room and Board included. Medical/Dental/Life Insurance after 60 days. Eligible for YMCA retirement after 2 years with immediate vesting. Can participate on a pre-tax basis before eligibility and roll-over options available.
