Position Overview
Environmental education and field experiences are important components of the Logan educational philosophy. Environmental Education teachers work collaboratively with Core Teachers to develop and implement a yearlong class unit, typically with a strong environmental science connection, comprised of a variety of classroom instruction and field experiences. These classroom instruction and field experiences are largely science-related. Above the Entry Primary (kindergarten) level students go on overnight experiences once or twice each year. These overnights vary in length from a single night up to ten days.​

Status
The EE teacher is a salaried, exempt position.

Hours

• The Logan School work day is 8:00-4:00, though EE teacher hours vary as required by job responsibilities
• Until 5:00 when attending required all-staff meetings
• Occasional evening/weekend hours 
• Overnight and weekend work is required for the extended trips

Essential Functions

• Develop age appropriate, science related curricula and deliver instruction consistent with the school's mission and core values, standards of teaching excellence
• Work collaboratively with core teachers in support of the class unit and the students.
• Communicate with core teachers regarding any concerns about a student, any schedule changes, and any other issues in which information will allow each teacher to better meet the needs of the child.
• Organize and lead or co-lead field trips
• Manage the budget for field trips
• Manage student medications on extended trips, with advance parent communication as needed.
• Drive a small bus for field trip transportation
• Help manage the EE lab, equipment and teaching supplies
• Maintain a bus calendar for usage
• Maintain an online calendar for trips
• Work collaboratively with the Business Office for billing and spending
• Perform miscellaneous other duties, as assigned by the head of school and/or dean​

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a field related to environmental education
• Experience planning and leading outdoor overnight trips with children
• Experience developing and executing environmental education lessons in both indoor and outdoor settings
• Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail
• Mac and/or Windows computer literate
• Ability to use Google Drive
• Ability to drive a small school bus
• Hold or be able to acquire medication delegation certification.
• Hold or be able to acquire Wilderness First Responder & CPR certification
• Undergo and pass a background check, DMV check and drug screening test as requested
