For educators who want to go beyond the water cycle, where do they start? What teaching strategy offers a useful perspective that engages students? One approach is the water footprint, a concept developed to account for and analyze the many ways humans use, overuse, and generally depend on water.
ECOMASTERS: A Planet in Peril, has launched this week, this post is to find young environmental influencers who might be in your classes or network, who would want to showcase their local actions and work with our ECOMASTERS launch team.
Hi everyone, I'd like to feature some 'real-life' environmental leaders between the ages of 12-16 on my new ECOMASTERS: A Planet in Peril website. If you are the teacher or parent/guardian of an amazing young girl or boy who would be interested to tell her or his story in a 30 second video or short abstract, please contact me at donnagoodman111@gmail.com
Thank you so much!!!
Donna
This booklet presents key messages for action, summarized from a set of chapters on different environmental health issues, available at www.who.int/ceh/publications/healthyenvironmentsforhealthychildren. The work is a result of an on-going partnership between WHO, UNEP and UNICEF in the area of children’s environmental health, and seeks to update the 2002 joint publication “Children in the New Millennium: Environmental Impact on Health."
Earth Child Institute Earth Day Campaign: Seeds for Students
In effort to engage children who are out of school all over the world, Earth Child Institute is launching a campaign to provide seeds and lesson plans to students at home, age 6-12, through their teachers and/or parents. Students will be able to plant the seeds in a small cup at home and by the time they go back to school, they will be able to plant the seedlings outside with their classmates. Interested teachers, parents and schools can write to info@earthchildinstitute.org to enroll.
With school closures all over the world and emphasis on the importance of hand-washing to prevent the transmission of germs, it can be helpful to teach children to understand how germs are 'handed' from one person to another and there is no better time to share this than on world water day
With school closures all over the world and talk of an invisible enemy, it can be helpful to teach children to understand that ‘seeing’ is not always believing and that invisible energies are all around us all the time and they are not always the enemy.
As we all well know, children and young people are our most precious treasure and education is our greatest resource to empower and protect them. The link herein is to a brief global survey from the Satya Sai University for Human Excellence, which will help to create a data base to substantiate the importance of our work. Please do take a few minutes to complete the survey and have your voice (and the voice of the children that you teach) heard! Thanks so much!! Best wishes, Donna
