The NEXT Institute: An Experiential Approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The NEXT Institute: An Experiential Approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles
From Classroom to Community, Moving Toward Social Justice
The NEXT Institute is an intensive day of inspired learning, collaboration and networking, focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the core principles that drive our work with educators. The NEXT experience provides educators with new knowledge and skills to support development of classroom and school program practice and culture. We focus particularly on taking an experiential, community based approach to our DEI related work. Sessions are highly interactive and collaborative, combining theory with practical application around issues of racial, economic, and gender justice ways that resonate with all learners.
During our day’s work we will make connections between social emotional learning, and integrating themes and content around social justice in lessons, units, and projects. Sessions include: DEI Connections to Place Based Education; Dominant Narratives, Inclusion, and Ethnography: Using an Experiential Approach to Connect Students to a Wider Community; Cultural Competency as a Reflective Process: DEI Work Begins with You; Unpacking White Supremacy; Status Quo Supremacy: Challenging the Norms That Hold Us Back; and Relationships Matter: The Psychology and Impact of Partnerships On Our DEI Work. learn more l register
