Join us for this experiential session to learn more about how to use bookmaking and art in your higher education classroom.
Dr. Wendy Strauch-Nelson is a Professor Emerita from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Department of Art, and is co-founder of ArtsCore. As an art educator, Dr. Strauch-Nelson taught various art methods and content courses. She holds a doctorate in Urban Education with an emphasis in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She studied under Dr. David Baker in a program that emphasized child-centered, holistic, integrated art education. Arts integration has been a passion throughout her career. Now semi-retired but active in ArtsCore, Dr. Strauch-Nelson continues to integrate art, teaching, and nature into her life in Door County. Her hobbies include painting, bookmaking, ceramics, and printing along with golf are hobbies.
Dr. Michael Beeth is a Professor Emerita from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He grew up in a small farming community where he could easily hike to wooded lots, small ponds, and the tops of hills left by receding glaciers. He developed a close connection with the local environment and enjoyed learning to live comfortably in the outdoors on many camping adventures. For 13 summers he taught others to learn from and live in the outdoors at a youth summer camp. He also taught other summer camp staff to offer programs through the Ecology Conservation Section of the National Camping School for the Boy Scouts of America for 10 summers. Michael’s scholarly interests are in how teachers facilitate conceptual change learning in science and in helping practicing teachers conduct action research. Michael’s greatest accomplishments have been in building partnerships for faculty and students, including in environmental education.
