Date and Time:

Why are fishing communities so central to our way of life in the Mid-Atlantic region? What is NOAA's role in working with these communities? Why and how can we incorporate these elements into environmental education in relevant and meaningful ways for our students? NOAA invites educators to participate in a one-day professional learning opportunity at the Cooperative Oxford Lab to support the integration of Fisheries & Communities topics within regional educational programming.

This workshop will take place at the Environmental Science Training Center in Oxford, MD and is open to both informal and formal educators.

During the workshop we will:

  • Learn about how NOAA is working within fishing communities from biological science and management, to social science and partnerships;
  • Connect with local partners who are leveraging local knowledge and traditions to deepen their environmental education programs;
  • Hear about available resources for beginning to integrate these ideas into your own programming.
