Overview:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Daily supervision of Zoo Camp participants and teen volunteers.
- Implements lesson plans that correlate with weekly learning objectives and themes.
- Develops and facilitates games, activities and crafts for class participants.
- Supports Assistant Instructors in supervising and evaluating teen volunteers.
- Ensures the safety of campers, staff and Zoo guests at all times.
- Maintains a clean and organized Zoo Camp environment.
- Works effectively as a member of a dynamic team.
- Interacts with Zoo guests and staff courteously, notifying appropriate personnel about challenges and successes.
- Other duties, as assigned.

COMMITMENT:
Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, for the entire camp season from June to mid-August.
EDUCATION:
2+ years pursuing a degree in an education or science related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1+ years of paid experience working with children in a formal or informal educational setting.
- Ability to work well collaboratively and manage time efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver information to groups.
- Highly motivated, innovative, organized and proactive.
- Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- The San Francisco Zoo encourages bilingual candidates to apply.
- Experience working with children with special needs is a plus.
- Formal coursework in education, biology, zoology or environmental studies preferred.
- Experience working with and giving guidance to youth volunteers preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Teaching credential is a plus, but not required.

Summer Zoo Camp will run Monday through Friday from June 8th through August 14th, 2020. Mandatory training will take place the week of June 1st.

Note: Instructors are expected to work all assigned weeks unless specific days off are approved by the Education & Engagement Manager prior to employment.
