Overview:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned, as needed.
- Works with the Education & Engagement Manager to oversee summer Zoo Camp program.
- Provides administrative support including camp group assignments, developing reports, processing refunds and transfers, sending confirmation details, etc.
- Communicates effectively with members of the Education Department staff, as well as members of other Zoo departments. This will include both time-sensitive and secure communications.
- Builds and maintains a professional rapport with Zoo Camp parents, includes communication via phone/email/camp blog.
- Ensures the safety of campers and staff while participating in Zoo Camp; including responding to emergency situations and administering first aid. Responsibilities also include overseeing the drop-off and pick-up process to ensure a smooth, safe and efficient experience for all Zoo Camp participants.
- Assists with the supervision of teen volunteers including: behavioral management and support, daily database record keeping, and regular correspondence with volunteers and teen support staff.
- Enforces Zoo Camp policies with campers, volunteers, staff & parents.
- Monitors and maintains inventory of Zoo Camp supplies.
- Interacts with Zoo guests courteously and offers proper attention at all times.
- Acts as an alternate instructor, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

COMMITMENT:
Must be available to work full-time, Monday through Friday, for the entire camp season from June to mid-August and part-time for training starting in May.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree with a background in education, biology, zoology, environmental studies, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of paid experience with children in a formal or informal educational setting.
- Experience working with teens.
- Ability to work well collaboratively and manage time efficiently.
- Highly motivated, innovative, organized and proactive.
- Successful completion of a background check and fingerprinting.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- The San Francisco Zoo encourages bilingual candidates to apply.
- Teaching credential is a plus.
- Experience with children with special needs a plus.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to function in potentially high-stress situations.

Salary: $19.00/hour
Note: The Zoo Camp Coordinator is expected to work all assigned weeks unless specific days off are approved by the Education & Engagement Manager prior to employment.
Summer Zoo Camp will run Monday - Friday from June 8th through August 14th, 2020. Coordinator training will take place on a part-time basis in May (start date TBD, based on applicant’s schedule). Mandatory all-staff training will take place the week of June 1st.
