Overview:

Earth Native Wilderness School is seeking an experienced, outgoing, competent, organized and motivated applicant to instruct year-round at our environmental education youth programs. Will work at various locations both in Austin and Bastrop, Texas. This position offers an incredible opportunity for educators to make positive impacts in children’s lives by helping them develop deep, lifelong connections to nature.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of instructors and directors to design and implement cohesive and exciting youth programs for (primarily) youth ages 5-12 with some positions focused on pre-school age and others with teenage youth
  • Provide high quality outdoor education program instruction at various youth programs 
  • Weekly communication with parents and families regarding program curriculum, logistics, and individual student progress
  • Help maintain a safe and functional outdoor school learning environment
  • Assist with outreach on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.) and at local events

​REQUIRED Qualifications

  • At least two years’ experience teaching outdoor education programs or similar related experience
  • Highly enthusiastic, motivated, and self-directed
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required before starting work

REQUIRED Skills

  • Must have knowledge and skill in most of the following areas:
  • General Naturalist Studies
  • Basic Wilderness/Outdoor Skills
  • Basic Wildlife Tracking
  • Navigation and Mapping
  • Hazards of Central Texas
  • Basic Flora and Fauna Identification for Central Texas (or similar skills from another bio-region)
  • Must have experience instructing and implementing immersive outdoor youth programs
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be creative, responsible, organized and be able to work on their own and in small teaching teams with little oversight

Preferred Skills/Training

  • Experience with nature connection mentoring such as Art of Mentoring, Coyote Mentoring, Kamana Naturalist Training Program, or similar place-based mentoring
  • Graduate of (Wilderness Awareness School’s) Anake Leadership program, RDNA Program, AWC Certification Program or similar environmental education program. 
  • Cybertracker Track and Sign Certification Level I or above

Pay

  • Average of 32-40 hrs a week/Pay rate $14-18/hr DOE
