Overview:

The Youth Leadership Summer Instructor’s primary responsibility is to lead groups of middle school and high school aged youth in an exciting andpopular environmental leadership program in the Golden Gate NationalRecreation Area and the One Tam Collaborative footprint. Through a rich combination of outdoor excursions, restoration work, fun team builders, hands-on projects, and interactive workshops, participants will gainleadership skills, explore issues relevant to them, and connect to their National Parks.This is a seasonal position (May 30th to August 5th.) that will generally worka Monday – Friday schedule, with some overnight trips and possible workon Saturdays.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans and facilitates overnight camping trips with youth.
  • Develops lessons for education, outdoor, and youth leadership activities.
  • Plans and facilitates educational lessons on topics including science, environmental justice, and climate change.
  • Plans and facilitates leadership skill-building workshops. Creates a physically and emotionally safe space for youth to engage inthe outdoors.
  • Support program managers to coordinate program planning and logistics.

Desired Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more school years working with middle or high schoolstudents.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of youth.
  • Experience leading or past participation in experiential educationand service-learning programs for youth in the outdoors, including overnight camping or backpacking trips.
  • Experience, strong interest, or education in environmental education,child development, recreation, or other related fields.
  • Knowledge of environmental and social issues, especially thoseissues affecting underserved Bay Area youth.
  • CPR and First Aid certification. Training can be provided after hire ifnecessary.
  • Multilingual preferred: Able to speak language(s) other than Englishthat are spoken by Bay Area communities. Spanish and Cantonese preferred.
  • Capacity to work outdoors in all kinds of weather and site conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A valid California Driver’s License. Must be eligible for coverage by Company insurance carrier.
  • Due to the nature of this position, we require the Live Scan fingerprint clearance in addition to the standard pre-employment background check.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Drive.

Compensation:

This is a non-exempt, seasonal position working an average of 40 hoursper week The hourly wage is negotiable and the potential minimumstarting rate is $23.00/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
