Who We Are:

Siskiyou Field Institute is where people come to learn about and explore the amazing Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion, a land of steep mountains, wild rivers and unusual diversity of species and habitats. SFI is a conduit for scientists and naturalists to share their passion and knowledge with the public each year through adult field courses and youth education programs. We also host researchers and other academic groups during the field season. Our location allows all students, scholars, and guests immediate access to the world-famous serpentinite and old-growth forests of the Klamath-Siskiyous. SFI is headquartered on the 850-acre Deer Creek Center where the Institute’s administrative offices as well as its educational, lodging and event facilities are housed. SFI’s mission is to increase the understanding of, and connection to, the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion through education, scientific research and public engagement.

What You’ll Do:

The Youth Education Program (YEP) Coordinator position is responsible for all aspects of our youth education programming including but not limited to:

• Oversee all aspects of overnight and day youth programs, filling in as instructor when needed
• Plan, modify, and implement the Outdoor School, Summer Camp,  and day programs; including policies, logistics, activities, schedules, health and safety protocols, sustainable land use, meals, equipment use, and residential program lodging
• Schedule, design and deliver classroom and field instruction for SFI educational programs, natural history topics and STEM subjects. 
• Facilitate arrival, meals, campfire, games, activities, staff and volunteer meetings, and departure 
• Accommodate the needs of all youth, staff, and volunteers, especially people from historically marginalized backgrounds.
• Work collaboratively to create and lead staff & volunteer training; Coach staff & volunteers to engage students in activities using trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches
• Prepare program budgets for overnight and day camps, instructor training, meal service, gear purchase and outreach events
• Implement and improve student-centered curriculum and programming, including land-based field studies, dirt time, evening programs, social emotional learning activities, and community building
• Fulfill all Oregon Outdoor School requirements in Senate Bill 439; Meet science and equity standards 
• Create resources and learning materials for students, instructors, volunteers, and teachers
• Coordinate with kitchen staff to assure food allergies and sensitivities are accommodated.
• Implement program changes using equity-focused assessments, community feedback, and research
• Collaborate with Siskiyou Field Institute administrative staff on grants, staffing, equity initiatives, and partnerships 

Compensation:

$20-$25/hr Range 32 hrs/wk

Who You Are:

We are looking for candidates who have:

• Demonstrated experience managing residential environmental education programs with a strong lens for risk management.
• Demonstrated office/administrative skills including, managing and communicating with multiple stakeholders quickly and accurately.
• Experience training, coaching or supervising educators or outdoor program staff.
• Written and verbal communication skills in customer service.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Zoom and cell phone based communication tools.
• Experience or training in equity and inclusion work.
• Bachelor’s degree and two years related experiential education experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• Valid Driver's License
