Degree and area of specialization: Masters degree in the field of education, biology, environmental science, horticulture, landscape architecture, or a related field of study.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

• At least 3 years of post-degree experience in curriculum development and hands-on environmental education in both classroom and outdoor settings.
• Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills, with a clear ability to work within a team structure.
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience with grant-writing, scientific publications, and public presentations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to supervise, manage, and motivate personnel.
• Highly organized, thorough, and detail-oriented work style, with strong time and task management skills.

Principal duties:

The mission of the Arboretum is to conserve and restore Arboretum lands, advance restoration ecology, and foster the land ethic. Created as a field research and teaching laboratory for University faculty and students, the Arboretum has a long history of scholarship and research excellence. The Environmental Education Project Manager is expected to continue this tradition, showing clear evidence of a passion for environmental education, and a desire to share that passion with others by developing creative programs that are based on the mission of the Arboretum.

The Environmental Education Manager reports to the Director of the Arboretum, and supervises the Arboretum's children's education coordinator, the adult education coordinator, the Earth Partnership manager, and also manages the Arboretum Naturalist program. This position will also work in tandem with the communications coordinator to provide updated content for Arboretum publications and digital media; with the volunteer coordinator to foster the engagement of volunteers in educational activities; and with the land care manager and ecologist to incorporate Arboretum land care and research activities into the educational/outreach programs.

Roles and responsibilities for the Environmental Education Program Manager II include:

• Establish a clear vision, including specific goals, for the Arboretum's local and national education and outreach programming that is consistent with the mission of the Arboretum.
• Develop and execute plans for education activities (including public/private tours, classes, programs, events, workshops, training, and exhibits) that are consistent with the Arboretum's mission and serve multi-cultural and multi-generational audiences.
• Continually evaluate and strengthen existing education and outreach offerings, based on program and revenue goals.
• Recruit external support for research and program initiatives, and disseminate research/project findings in professional publications.
• Supervise, encourage, and evaluate the performance of Arboretum staff direct reports.
• Serve as part of a cross-unit team to manage the visitor experience, including developing and updating interpretive signage and exhibits for the Visitor Center.
• Develop, maintain, and promote positive and professional relationships with internal staff, faculty, volunteers, donors, practitioners, stakeholders, and the general public.
• Embody the Wisconsin Idea by engaging neighborhoods and community-based organizations.
• Apply knowledge and skills in a university setting and foster campus collaborations whenever possible.

$48,333 is the minimum of the range. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
