Overview:

The Adventure Trip Logistics Coordinator collaboratively supervises the Adventure Trips program and assists with the departure, return, and safety of all off-site trips. This position is in charge of managing trip leaders and trip center assistants as well as ensuring the quality of the program and completing logistical components required in the program. They are responsible for creating a successful pack out system for overnight trips, ordering food or gear when needed, packing food, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk to ensure positive and incident free experiences for participants and staff. 
  • Supervise and evaluate Adventure Trip Leaders, including, but not limited to, maintaining staff morale and conducting one-on-one meetings with each staff member each session
  • Conduct trip briefings and debriefs for assigned off-site trips
  • Create a safe and fun environment for campers and staff participating in the Adventure Program
  • Design and implement programming for campers and staff participating in the Adventure Program
  • Develop and maintain a positive culture within the program
  • Be an active member of a small community, including, but not limited to, giving your opinion in an appropriate manner, taking on delegated responsibilities and helping to maintain the physical, emotional and mental health of each team member
  • Maintain a friendly, cooperative, and professional relationship with your co-workers, director and any other staff members or outfitters
  • Complete and submit all required documentation including, but not limited to, daily logs, accident reports, vehicle logs, etc. in a timely manner
  • Assist in overseeing mini-trip pack outs and logistics
  • Oversee the planning, execution and evaluation of off-site overnight trips.  This includes ensuring campers are learning specific hard and soft skills needed for each trip, supervising staff in implementation and preparation for trips, and processing trips with campers and staff at the conclusion of the experience.
  • Respond to emergencies, crisis and evacuations, regardless of the time of day or night, including, but not limited to visiting trip sites up to 12 hours away on short notice
  • Works closely with Adventure Director to ensure risk management practices and procedures are adequate and being followed in all cases
  • Assists and leads training sessions throughout the summer
  • Be a good role model for fellow staff and campers at all times. This includes modeling acceptable behavior, language, Frost Valley’s core values and outdoor standards
  • Ensure that Frost Valley Summer Camps achieves the highest standard and meets the mission and goals of both the Summer Camp Department and Frost Valley YMCA, as well as expectations of customers.
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Offer help and assist with any other duties as assigned for the success of Frost Valley

Qualifications: 

  • Must be 21 years of age or older by June 1, 2021
  • Valid US driver’s license and ability to drive Frost Valley vehicles, including 12 passenger mini-buses
  • Minimum Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification required, or willingness to aquire.
  • Experience supervising staff leading overnight, outdoor programming
  • Experience working with youth and teens ages 9-17 in an outdoor setting, or a strong desire to gain experience in such an environment
  • Experience with food or gear pack out systems or strong desire to gain experience in such an environment
  • Able to hike 8-10 miles in rugged, uneven terrain per day with a pack weight one third of one’s body weight.  In good physical health overall is a must.
  • Strong sense of risk management practices and procedures and excellent decision making
  • Ability to work long hours, including late night or early morning programs under high stress
  • Ability to be flexible to sudden changes in schedule, staff and campers
  • Possess strong leadership, management, organization, communication and group facilitation skills.  Previous supervisory experience desired
  • Be able to multi-task and handle pressure well
  • Present a strong, positive model for kids and fellow staff members
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Work well with a team of others
