  • June 8th – July 31st: 8 weeks of Camp (no camp July 2nd – 3rd)
  • August 3rd – August 5th: Camp Wrap

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently seeking four (4) seasonal Summer Zoo Camp Instructors for the Education Department.  This position will supervise and teach children enrolled in our Summer Zoo Camp.  Will instruct camps based on the basic principles of life science, environmental science, zoology, ecology, and conservation science; will utilize biofacts and will develop hands-on activities, crafts, and games that revolve around animal themes and nature play.  In addition to leading camp activities, other responsibilities will include but are not limited to: daily camp prep and cleanup, light housekeeping, recording attendance, ZooTeen! supervision, and parent/caregiver interaction.

  • Applicants must be available to work 8:00am to 4:30pm or 8:30am to 5:00pm
  • Monday through Friday all 9 1/2 weeks.

Applicants must have completed two years of college and be able to pass a Level II background screening.   Must be able to stand for long periods of time and traverse Zoo grounds on foot in possibly adverse weather conditions including heat, cold and rain. Must be able to bend, squat, sweep, and lift 25 lbs. without difficulty.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biology, zoology and/or life science and previous teaching experience.  Must love kids and animals!  Previous teaching experience with children in an informal learning center such as a zoo, museum, nature center, or parks department is a plus.  An outgoing, self-starting, enthusiastic, team player personality combined with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances is essential for success in this position.  Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet search are required.
